Woodstock Now Looms Large for State Playoffs
ROSWELL—Last Friday’s Region 4AAAAAAA Loss to the Etowah Eagles on Senior Night puts the Hornets in a position of needing help from Walton and Lassiter as the 2017 Season comes to an end. With a Region Record of 1-2 the Hornets are behind Etowah at 2-1 and Woodstock at 2-1. Lassiter currently has a 1-2 record in the Region. Cherokee is 0-3.
Etowah ends it season with two home games vs. both Walton and Lassiter. If Walton/Lassiter prevail Etowah has a final region record of 2-3. Woodstock ends it season with Roswell and Walton which gives them a possible region record of 2-3. Lassiter ends it season with Cherokee and Etowah. However, even winning both games would give them a region record of 3-2. The Hornets would hold the tie-breaker over Lassiter due to their Head to Head victory over the Trojans on October 6. The Hornets need to win out vs. Woodstock and Cherokee and rely on some help from others in order to get the coveted #2 seed in the Region and host a 1st Round AAAAAAA State Playoff game.
The Hornets were victimized by costly turnovers last Friday vs. Etowah. However, Hornet RB Kamonty Jett surpassed 1,000 yards for the season with two games remaining.
Moving forward the Hornets hold a lifetime record of 9-2 over the Wolverines from Woodstock to include a 59-7 win last season. Woodstock has a prolific Offense Scoring 31 ppg while giving up 27 ppg. Woodstock defeated Cherokee last week 30-6.
