MARRIETTA—The Hornet Football Team jumped out to a 23-0 Halftime lead which Lassiter cut to 23-7 on their first drive of the 2nd half. However, the Hornets answered with a Touchdown drive of their own and extended the lead to 30-7 midway into the 3rd quarter when the wheels fell off. Lassiter’s QB struck for two touchdown passes converting both two point play attempts to cut the score to 30-22 with less than 4 minutes remaining in the game. Hornet Running Back Kamonty Jett and Quarterback Cordell Littlejohn both had outstanding nights rushing the ball vs. Lassiter’s Defense. In an attempt to gain more yardage the spinning Jett lost control of the Football and Lassiter was looking at 4th and Goal from the Hornet 8yd line with the score remaining 30-22. Lassiter’s QB escaped several Hornet defenders and lobbed a pass in the end zone for a game tying score after another successful two point attempt.
For the third time this season the Hornets found themselves in overtime. A missed Field goal attempt by Lassiter at the end of their overtime set the Hornets up for victory. After overcoming a 15 yard penalty and starting on the 30 yd. line the Hornets pounded the ball into Lassiter’s endzone for the win.
With that win the Hornets are now 1-0 in the region and await undefeated and #4 AAAAAAA ranked Walton at Ray Manus Stadium for Homecoming on Friday October 13th.
